Silver Falls State Park - The Land of Enchantment

Up near a small town called Sublimity, Oregon is the most enchanting place that is filled with all these really cool waterfalls. They actually have an 8.7-mile trail called Trail of Ten Falls.

Well I am fortunate enough that my mother works for Oregon State Parks and one of the locations that she hosts at is Silver Falls. Mike and I made the trip up there in the Spring 2016. Now mind you, I was able to entice Mike to make the trip with me because Cabela’s is on the way. Cabela’s is cool. Mike goes for the gun stuff and I go for the fudge. It’s a win win situation!

The day that we started the trip it was pouring down rain. The whole trip up there was just rain. The kind of rain that makes you wonder what in the hell you are doing on the road. We persisted however. On the way up we cruised thru Cottage Grove. They have a few covered bridges that are pretty cool. We were scoping it out so that we could stop on the way home when the weather was more cooperative. I did get some shots of a couple of the bridges. Little did I know, those would be the only ones that we would get because THE SUN WAS SHINING TOO MUCH ON THE WAY HOME! Go figure.

So on we go to Silver Falls. It was still raining when we arrived but shortly after it slowed down allowing us to venture to South Falls by the visitors’ center. You can see photographs of this waterfall all day long but have no idea of the majesty of it until you are there.

I think one of the things that captured my attention was all the Rhododendrons blooming and just how lush it is with all the rain. It’s a beautiful sight!

We did a lot of hiking in the next couple of days. The waterfalls were amazing. I would be hard pressed to state which one is my favorite! I will say that it was amazing to walk behind some of the waterfalls. I was particularly fond of Lower South Falls.

A repeat trip to Silver Falls is in order. I would love to hit it in autumn and winter. In fact, I heard that a lot of the falls froze this winter. That would have been a sight to see!
