Bring On The Parseids!

So when the Parseids were at their peak in August, Mike and I decided to venture up to a nearby lookout to try and capture some meteors. Unfortunately, this year the moon was in competition with the Parseids!

We were able to capture a few shots but they weren't very spectacular with the bright moon.

At 2 AM I got up and set up two cameras. One to try and capture the startrails around the lookout. We stuck a blue glow stick on the one side of it to make it look as tho there was a light on inside.

The other camera was set up, so the moon wouldn't go through the frame, to try and capture the meteors that might shoot through the night sky. Off in the distance you can see the red lights of the wind turbines near Burney. The shot below is a composite of 10 photos. There are actually about 10 meteors in the shot but because of the moon it's hard to see them.

This shot is a single shot of one of the meteors.

All in all, it was a fun trip! The 2018 Parseids Meteor Shower looks like it might shape up to be a good one! The moon is going to be near non existant!
