Have You Ever Heard of Mexican Hat?

There are some pretty cool things in the southern part of Utah. Two in particular are Mexican Hat and Raplee Ridge.

After passing the eroded mesas of Monument Valley, highway US 163 crosses 20 miles of rather flat landscape past scattered Navajo houses to Mexican Hat, a small settlement named after a curious formation nearby consisting of a large flat rock 60 feet in diameter perched precariously on a much smaller base at the top of a small hill.

These are just cell phone shots The lighting was so bright when we were there my camera didn't do justice to the landscape.

I was most intrigued with Raplee Ridge.I don't know all the particulars of this amazing landscape phenomenon. I just know that it is really cool! I guess the best place to view this coolness is from Goosenecks State Park. Time didn't allow us to explore this park. We were trying to get to Valley of the Gods prior to sunset.

Raplee Ridge

One of the amazing canyons in this area. Love the wide open skies!

I highly recommend checking out this area! Too much to do in so little time! I will need to go back!
