My Town

Some of you may know this already but I live in a very small, historical mining town. Everyone knows everyone else (and their business!). Let me clarify, I love my town. I love the history. I love the people. I love the fact that the little lady next to me is 103 and still living on her own. I love how one of the roughest, toughest guys in town comes over to mow her lawn every week. I love how we all look after each other.

Now, like most towns, it has an assortment of people and animals that make it unique. Just what you would expect from a small, northern California town!

Recently, I had the pleasure of being able to capture two of the animal characters of town. Everyday I drive home from work I go past the French Gulch Hotel. About 90% of the time the town dog "Tank" is sitting on the front porch. Every time I see him I think to myself "Tomorrow I'm going to bring my camera". Well, I finally did. I call the shot "Getting Tanked".

The other one has a lengthier story. One of the families in town got hold of a goose egg. They incubated it and it hatched. Well, when a goose hatches, the first thing they see they think of as their mother. So this family is his "mother". The goose follows them everywhere. One morning I'm sitting on my porch enjoying the day and the two little girls walk by and this goose is following them, I was bummed because I didn't have my camera so I got prepared thinking they would be back in a few minutes. Well they wandered back about an hour and a half later WITHOUT THE GOOSE! I asked them where their goose was. I was informed that he had grown weary from his walk and they were giving him a "ride" home. His mode of transportation you ask? They were giving him a ride in a paper grocery bag with a towel in the bottom of it! I looked in the bag and he is just chilling! Anyhow, I told them I wanted to take a photograph of their goose so they took him out and they proceeded home with the goose in tow. Turns out the goose's name is Biff so I call the shot "Walking Biff".

Both of these shots were taken with my Lensbaby Trio. I love this lens and the dreamy, artistic feel it gives to a scene.
