Is That A Kangaroo?

So Mike and I ventured north towards Callahan to visit Kangaroo Lake. I have read about this lake for years but have never visited it. Boy was I missing out! This is one of the most amazingly beautiful lakes around. The campground is great as well. Nice and clean and run by two of the nicest people.

We got the sweetest spot in the campground (in my opinion!). Space 11. This space backed up to the lake so I could go hike over the knoll and set my camera up for my night shots. I could leave my camera out all night without fear of it getting ripped off. It was a very, very, nice spot.

The first afternoon we wandered down to the lake to check it out. It has a paved trail that is handicap approved down to the lake. The water is crystal clear. Later in the evening I went down to try and capture the sunset. I actually witnessed an eagle fly down and pluck a fish right out of the lake. It was amazing! This photograph was the best of my sunset shots for the three days that we were there.

I figured I would try to switch it up the next night and photograph the small lake next to Kangaroo. They call it Lilypad Lake. I figured with a name like that it would be overrun with lilypads but it wasn't. It was a very pretty little lake and smooth as glass in the evenings. Just an FYI, there are coyotes close to this lake. We heard them in the brush and their yipping verified their close proximity to us!

I managed to capture a great shot there as well. I even snuck in a crystal ball photo!

We managed to go exploring a bit up some of the side roads. There were some neat meadows around.

All in all, this is a very pretty lake with enough to keep a person busy for a week. I never made it up the botanical trail. I am planning a trip back. The only downfall of this lake is it's popularity. If you don't want to be around a bunch of people then plan on going during the week. You will be hard pressed to find a campsite or parking space on the weekend!
