Don't Be So Salty
Continuing on Saline Springs Road was brutal! As some may know, Death Valley had some horrendous flash flooding earlier this year. Parts of the road were so rocky that you had to crawl along. It took us about four hours to go 50 miles or so. We kept our eyes peeled for wildlife. We had seen a Big Horn Sheep run across the road in front of us the day before on the highway. Of course, I wasn't ready with the camera and Mike only got the ass end of the animal!
Lo and behold, we ran across the salt flats and remains of the slat trams. The salt formations and such were very interesting. It was the last thing that I thought I would see in the desert!
Along with the salt trams was a herd of about 30 burros. They are so cute. There were quite a few little ones. The last time we were in Death Valley they were all over the place. I guess they were doing a lot of damage to the environment so the park has taken it upon themselves to "thin the herd".
Just a little ways from this area we decided to have coffee and breakfast.
Traveling on we finally arrived at the hot springs. That's a story for another blog!
