Lily of the Desert
Our next adventure took us out about 25 miles on Saline Valley Road to Lee Flat. Lee Flat is home to the biggest Joshua Tree forest in Death Valley. Some of these trees were huge. All this time I thought that the “trees” were actually soft like cactus flesh. Nope. They are actually woody. Tripped me out. The Joshua Tree's nickname is "Lily of the Desert" because it was thought they belonged to the Lily family. After much research it was determined that they belong to the agave family.
We drove all over the place looking for the perfect composition for some sunset and night photography. Every time you think you find one that is perfect, you spy another! You just have to run with one of them!
We finally decided on a spot for camp so I set my cameras up and went to bed. Mike and I woke up a few hours later to the wind howling. There was very little sleep that night. It was also quite chilly. With the wind on you it made for freezing temperatures. We couldn’t even make coffee in the morning because of the wind. We packed up and headed out on Saline Valley Road for our next adventure and calmer winds!
