Who Are These People?

Recently, I was asked to photograph the Annual Whiskeytown Regatta. Mind you, I have no experience with sailing or sailboats. I wasn't even sure of exactly what people would want!

So the day of the race is sunny, warm and windless. It was going to be a very slow race! My day started at their registration area and then progressed out to the water. I had been promised a boat and a driver that would whisk me around Whiskeytown Lake to capture these amazing shots! I had visions of these totally tricked out boat with cushy seats that purred like a kitten as we idle at strategic locations awaiting the sailboats.

What did I have? Well, envision this. I'm pretty sure this boat was stolen off the set of Duck Dynasty. It was a camouflage aluminum boat named Duck Slayer II. My chauffeur you ask? A punk rocker from New Jersey that had tattoos of every nature everywhere. He sported an awesome mohawk too. His name is Joshua. Super nice guy. Those two days turned out to be such fun! He had a personality like mine and cussed as bad as I do. Unfortunately, I didn't get a photograph of him.

Now the owner of the boat was participating in the race otherwise he would have been my driver. I'm pretty sure this guy is trying out for Duck Dynasty and failed this year because his beard wasn't long enough. He too was sporting the mohawk hairdo. His name is Wayne, or Black Beard as I heard someone yell at him. Apparently, he really likes to hunt and fish and this poor boat bore that fact. I'm pretty sure that the guy stencil on the boat is supposed to be Wayne. See photo below.

So I ask, is this the mossy oak pattern?

In the photo below, you can see Wayne, his wife and his mother-in-law.

These two were the youngest competitors in the regatta. They are Joshua's kids. See the mohawk?

There were a few boats that were awesome to photograph. I think one of my favorites was CHAOS.

Overall, the two days I spent photographing this event were awesome! I would definitely do it again. Maybe next year they will get some wind!
